I Am…

Rafael Magaña, my artist name is magañauprising. I'm a young creator, designer and artist. My earliest memories of the creative process are of myself sitting at a school desk at the age of six or seven, drawing on pieces of paper. Even though I have been influenced by many artists from several different movements, I feel that my faith as a believer of Christ has given me the greatest inspiration.

At this point in my artistic career, my computer screen represents my canvas and my tablet represents my brush. Graphic design and illustration are my passion and the continual changes in the field bring me new challenges that keep my passion alive. I have a strong desire to expand my career to the field of teaching art. I thoroughly enjoy the spark that occurs while I help a peer learn something new. I also take great pride in helping businesses, churches and bands improve their image and marketing their products and services.

I believe that my design work showcases my strength in graphic design. I have developed expertise with several software programs on windows based platforms. Although my experience began with manual design, drawing and illustration; it has grown to include the realm of electronic design.

A great design is the expectation of any client. However, the art of the design is not only in its design aesthetic but in satisfying the marketing needs of my client. A great artist can create a masterpiece but a great designer will create sales and revenue. Artistic skill is but one tool in the box of a good designer. Seeing how that applies to the recognized needs of my client is my primary objective. Understanding the audience a design is intended for creates effective marketing tools. While I have both a B.S. in design from the Art Institute and several years of freelance design practice, I also have experience in marketing and business as both an entrepreneur of a successful small business unrelated to design and also within the context of a corporate structure. My view of design is not seen through the narrow scope of design education but through practical application in real situations from my business experience. A design is meant to illicit a response from your audience and you know your audience best. It is up to me to interpret that need and create an appealing project that fulfills the need of your customer demographic.

I offer services primarily for print work and some medium amount of web materials but am not a web designer or coder. I have created print materials for books, DVDs, CDs, print ads, posters, logos/identity, tradeshows, shirt designs, package design, product engineer design and small ads and banners for the internet. With your needs in mind, I can create materials that you will take pleasure in and will generate revenue for your business.
