Born into what is considered to be the Golden Age of Hip Hop Music, The Inscrypshun loved music from the first day that he could hear a musical note. Being born into a Jamaican family, the first two artists that had an impact on him were Bob Marley and Michael Jackson.

“Bob Marley just seemed to embody a song when he got on stage. My mother would always play a collection of his performances and music videos and there was never a dull moment with him. Michael showed me that you have to enjoy the music that you do. He always had fun when he was on stage, whether by himself or with his brothers.”

Keeping those thoughts in mind, Scryp started writing poetry when he was seven years old. It started out being an assignment from class and then it became more personal. At about 8, he was crafting songs exemplifying how he felt about various things. Don’t think that he was a deep thinker at 8 years old. The topic of those songs was mainly getting put on punishment by his parents.

“The artists that made me want to rap were DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. They had a song called “Parents Just Don’t Understand”. If you could be on the radio and talk about your parents, you were the bravest person in the world to me. You were my hero. My parents didn’t abuse me, but they laid down the law.”

With the taste to be able to speak what was on his mind, Scryp began to practice a craft that caused him to voice his thoughts and think on a different level all at the same time. Through many years of practice (training is what he calls it), Scryp has built himself into being a person not scared to say what you need to hear or what you need to understand.

“The ability to express oneself has been underrated. People put up the facade of being overly emphatic or sympathetic and then everyone believes that’s how we need to be all the time. If you never express yourself, you build up issues within.”

People fear what they don’t understand. The Inscrypshun’s goal with his music is to help people understand themselves, each other, the world that surrounds us, and how music is supposed to sound.

“The music that I do speaks for itself and stands on its own. What I put out is truly for and from the soul.”
